Gurneys are also called
stretchers and are used in
modern hospitals and
ambulances. They are narrow
beds fitted to a wheeled frame
that can be adjusted to the
required height. The gurneys
used in ambulances come in a
variable height wheeled frame
that can be locked to a sprung
latch in the ambulance to
prevent any movement to the
gurney while in transit.
Gurneys are usually covered
with a disposable sheet and
cleaned every time a patient is
carried on it to prevent the
spreading of any infection or
disease. On arrival to the
emergency room of a hospital,
the patient is moved along with
this sheet onto a fixed table or
bed.
The standard gurneys have
adjustments that can be made
to raise or lower the gurney as
required during a patient
transfer. The gurney |
